Staff Designer
The primary role of a Staff Designer is to develop management skills and proficiency while still supporting senior designers on various projects. This is a robust role requiring a variety of responsibilities and tasks. Designer II’s remains supportive on some projects while managing one or two projects with senior staff oversight. The goal is to understand the complexities of a project and learn how to think about all components – plan and be proactive – while continuing to hone professional and design competency. Additionally, Designer II will start to manage supporting staff, learning how to delegate to, train and provide constructive feedback.
Job functions include:
Collaborate with upper-level designers to support projects in all phases.
Collaborate with and delegate to junior design staff specific to each project.
Project management with oversite. Serving as the main point of contact for clients, external project partners, and internal team.
Lead design process with oversite, collaborating with Anastasia and team. See concepts through to completion in all design phases.
Identify and respond to client and external project partner needs.
Refine proficiency and precision in the detailing and specification process.
Develop awareness of scope, budgets, and project timelines.
Create and manage drawing sets with oversight, working documents, and presentation materials.
Execute AHD’s standards in all deliverables and ways of working.
Communicate effectively and efficiently to clients and external project partners about design and the AHD process.
Receive and provide constructive feedback as part of project teams.
Desired skills & experience:
3-5+ years working in an interior design role and a degree in interior design/architecture. Ability to form trusting relationships with clients, teammates, and external partners. Desire to work in a team atmosphere, support your peers, and contribute to the culture, standards, and processes that make AHD successful. A flexible, positive attitude and the ability to process change calmly and effectively. A talent for prioritizing, juggling multiple projects, and delegating when necessary. Refined visual presentation skills as well as excellent written and verbal communication. Fluency in Adobe Creative Suite, Revit or AutoCAD, Google Docs, SketchUp. Strong free-hand and computer skills. AHD uses a MAC/PC platform. Project experience that includes the submission of drawing sets, including but not limited to specifications, technical production, and basic code knowledge. Construction administration experience and/or project management experience are a plus. Skilled in visual research, material sourcing and specification, custom furniture design, and furniture sourcing.

This position requires at least 40 hours per week and occasional overtime to meet project deadlines. Preference will be given to designers local to or willing to move to Westfield, NJ, a possible remote employee will not be considered for this position.
